Comprehensive 0-2 Years Pediatric Immunization Schedule & Post-Vaccine Care
Complete pediatric routine immunization timeline. Expert guidance on injection site care, fever management, and recognizing anaphylactic red flags.
1. Clinical Importance of Timely Pediatric Immunization
Vaccines present attenuated antigens to the developing infant immune system, stimulating high-affinity neutralizing antibodies and long-lived memory B and T cells. Adhering to the recommended schedule during the first 24 months establishes robust defense against lethal pediatric infectious pathogens.
2. Essential 0-24 Month Immunization Schedule
- Within 24 Hours of Birth: Birth-dose Hepatitis B (HepB) and Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) for tuberculosis prevention.
- Months 2, 3, 4: Hexavalent 6-in-1 series (DTaP-IPV-Hib-HepB), oral rotavirus gastroenteritis vaccine, and pneumococcal conjugate (PCV13/15).
- Month 9: Monovalent measles or combined MMR plus live attenuated Japanese Encephalitis vaccine.
- Month 12: Pneumococcal conjugate booster, Varicella (chickenpox), and Hepatitis A dose 1.
- Months 18 - 24: Hexavalent booster dose 4, secondary MMR booster, and quadrivalent Meningococcal ACYW conjugate.
3. Post-Vaccination Observation & Home Care Protocol
Remain at the clinical facility for 30 minutes post-injection for immediate anaphylaxis monitoring. At home, observe core body temperature, alertness, and breathing for 48 hours. For low-grade fevers below 38.5°C, maximize hydration, apply warm axillary compresses, and dress in breathable cotton. Never apply raw potato slices, herbal pastes, or topical ointments to injection sites.
